Gold medal recognises exceptional service

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers hosted its Presidents Awards dinner at the Royal Automobile Club in London. The annual president’s dinner recognises and rewards industry talent with awards showcasing both newly qualified and experienced engineers.

Amongst those honoured with awards, One Eighty Light Founder, Stephen Lisk FCIBSE FSLL was presented with the Institutions highest award, the CIBSE Gold Medal for “exceptional service to the institution and Industry”.

The citation read by Past Chair of CIBSE HCNW region Olu Babalola, highlighted:

“Stephen has always reinforced the attraction of CIBSE’s larger purpose, its guiding principles, and its value to society. Stephen’s service, diplomacy, the significant changes he brought about and the legacy of those changes, his work to engage CIBSE members, all deserve recognition.

Stephen joined CIBSE in 2001 becoming President of the Society of Light and Lighting in 2009, and was later made a Fellow of the Society, and a Fellow of CIBSE. He joined the CIBSE Board in 2009, rising to President in 2018, leading the Institutions positive response to the actions arising from the Grenfell Tower tragedy and the enquiry report ‘Building a safer future’.

I am very honoured to receive this award, in the esteemed company of people that have given so much to the Institution past and present.  I would like to thank all of those who have supported me, recognition like this is rarely for just one person’s efforts. The last couple of years have been very difficult for those who have lost loved ones. A close friend of mine, and a past Secretary and President of the Society of Light and Lighting Liz Peck sadly passed away last year, and I would like to dedicate this award in her memory.
